After the success of last year’s inaugural Mother’s Day gift wrap at The Guildhall Shopping Centre, the OOTHS team returned to the Guildhall yesterday on Saturday 25th March to run the complimentary gift wrapping bureau and children’s craft station.
With bows, ribbon and paper flying about, the team wrapped up presents bought in the Guildhall for the mums, grandmothers, aunts and special ladies of Stafford. This year we added a children’s craft station where children could make cards and bouquets for their mums and 100 chocolate roses were given away for the mums of those who attended the event.
Special thanks to Card Factory who helped us decorate our bureau, and to Kismet Rose who kept us busy during the day by promoting our service to all their shoppers – they win the award for the highest number of gift wrapped from one shop! It just remains for us to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all!
Christmas beckoned in a busy season for OOTHS, as the team were running both Christmas campaigns for The Swan Centre in Kidderminster and The Guildhall Shopping Centre in Stafford. The themes for both centres were based on fairies and the magic of Christmas, with different interpretations for each centre with something for both the adults and children.
The Guildhall Shopping Centre ran with its normal three Saturdays schedule in the run-up to Christmas, with a fairy trail and craft for the children, entertainment provided by Musical Ruth and the Winter Fairy, and the popular gift wrap station just before Christmas. Over 100 children participated in the trail and the team wrapped 160 presents on the wrapping station. Here is a snapshot of the gift wrap action above.
For The Swan Centre we devised a special wish spot trail with different wish spots placed around the centre with clues to a secret password ‘tinsel’. The children shared the password with us, then got the chance to pan for gold in the prizes. Activities for the day included writing letters to Santa, craft stations and gift wrapping and mince pies for the adults – lots of fun was had by all!
That’s all from OOTHS for this year, we will be back in 2017 for more, until then, we wish you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Do you dare to join the party? This was the question in Kidderminster this Saturday, when the OOTHS team brought their own special Halloween blend of shivers and chills to The Swan Centre. This was the first time that The Swan Centre had run a Halloween event, and at the suggestion from OOTHS to capitalise on the retail calendar, the event proved to be a great success!
The party was in full swing early in the day, with plenty of enthusiastic trail hunters out on the Hubble Bubble trail looking for the missing witches hats. With fake smoke, spooky tunes and even The Swan Centre staff getting dressed up for the occasion, the centre certainly looked the part. The Goosebump Games went down a treat too, with the popular enchanted eyeball challenge being a hit with the kids. Over 100 party bags were distributed at the event for the winners, and our talented face painter was in action transforming faces into pumpkins, spider webs and bats, all by one brush stroke at a time!
August is truly the month of sun, sea and sand – earlier this year, OOTHS were invited to bring a taste of beach fun to The Swan Centre to coincide with the school holidays. The middle of August is typically the time where the initial holiday camps have finished, and the August Bank holiday is coming up, so it’s a great time for retailers to create an event to encourage families into the centre by providing family friendly activities and in turn encourage sales and promotions.
Over 18th and 19th August, all shoppers were invited to The Swan Centre’s Beach Party to enjoy family-friendly fun and games. Over the two days, there was a roaster of activities with the main theme being a beach i-spy game with animals hiding around the centre for the children to find. Once they had found all the animals, they received a message in a bottle describing their prize and this also gave them entry into the craft station to decorate their bottle.
Alongside the fun, there was also kinetic sand, which proved as popular with the parents as with the children, and sea shanty music playing throughout the day. Children also had the chance to including traditional beach games such as hook-a-duck, and pin the tail on the donkey. The beach dress-up and photo booth was also busy throughout the day, with plenty of lovely snapshots and memories being captured. All the pictures from the event can be seen on The Swan Centre’s Facebook page here.
On Saturday 5th March, the OOTHS team arrived at the Guildhall Shopping Centre to add a sparkle to the day for the mums of Stafford. At the request of Kismet Rose, one of the shops in the centre, the OOTHS team returned with their gift wrapping service for Mother’s Day and shoppers were encouraged to express their feelings for their mums by posting messages of love and gratitude on a female mannequin. In addition there were 100 roses given away to ladies in the centre for the day as a token of appreciation.
With over 180 gifts wrapped and excellent feedback from shoppers using the services, the event was certainly a success for the Guildhall Shopping Centre. Customers using the service described it as ‘an amazing and thoughtful idea’. Over 90% of customers surveyed rated the event as excellent and 95% would like to see more events like this at the centre. Over 100 messages were posted on the mannequin, which particularly popular with teenagers writing notes to their mums and using them on social media. For the centre as a whole, the footfall was +16% on the previous Saturday and +13% on the same weekend last year.
The gift wrap team were certainly in demand for the full day and there were even queues at times! Have a look at the Guildhall Facebook page to get the full flavour of the day and see our wrapping experts in action, complete with flowers in their hair as they engaged with the customers.
On Saturday 14th November, the Only On The High Street team were invited to The Swan Centre in Kidderminster to support the town’s Christmas Lights Switch-On. The theme brief of family fun for the children meant the centre had a great atmosphere throughout the day and everyone was in great spirits for the lantern parade which started from The Swan Centre and went through the town to the Town Hall – and was led by our very own Frosty the Snowman!
The day started at 10am with the arrival of Frosty the Snowman and the children were excited to see him and have their picture taken with him. There was plenty more fun with the opportunity to write their letter to Santa and post it in the special North Pole postbox. Santa has promised us that despite his busy schedule, he will be writing back to all the children before Christmas too! There was craft fun too with mask making and crown making ready for the parade in the evening, and our face painter and photo box props where in full swing too!
Feedback from the centre management team was fantastic and we also saw several familiar faces amongst the parents and children who came down previously to join us from the #DinoTrail event in the summer – always great to have return customers! Here’s a quick snapshot of the day with Hannah Jean from OOTHS talking to Rosalyn Darby, the Centre Manager at The Swan Centre about the event – of course Frosty the Snowman makes his celebrity appearance as well to give you a flavour of the moment! Enjoy!
